I’m from Ukraine and moved to US a couple of years ago, have green card and a job. Because of the situation in Ukraine, my family wants to send me around $25k for temporary safekeeping through Western Union. Do I need to pay taxes next year on this money? I’m hoping that maybe there is a way to avoid them, considering the plan is for me to hold it temporarily. I will send it back as soon as war in Ukraine ends. If anyone knows of other more effective methods of sending/receiving that will avoid large fees/tax I would greatly appreciate any input.
