I'm sorry if this is the wrong subreddit. Last night my step father passed away with my sister and I at his side. Our mom had not officially divorced him but is living in another state and family on his side are out of state as well. He had no life insurance that I know of or will, and we didn't discuss any burial arrangements before he passed. We are going to arrange a meeting with local funeral home for him to possibly be cremated, but I'm lost on what to do next. He's been on a ventilator since mid October so he was never able to truly communicate what his wishes were. My sister was the power of attorney so im afraid all the expenses are going to fall on her as she quit her job to take care of him. He did have Medicare so hopefully the medical bills are covered but everything else we are uncertain of. Since my mother never divorced my step father I'm thinking she would have a say in this.
