I have a high deductible health insurance plan ($5500 deductible)

My doctor's visits and Rx's are supposed to be out of pocket until I hit the deductible.

My doctor prescribed a non generic medicine so I did some research on my plan on what it would cost with a good Rx coupon. I was CONVINCED it was $350 a month out of pocket and I was prepared to reject the prescription.

Turns out it was free?? And so was the doctors visit?? No copay at all.

Question 1: How is this possible? The drug was listed as preferred for my insurance but there was no information on this in my plan docs.

Question 2: How can i accurately get an estimate of costs for medicine or services under my current plan?

I have a sleep study coming up and again, in my health plan docs it's supposed to be 100% out of pocket ($3300).

Now based on my medicine experience, I'm wondering if that's accurate.

Any thoughts?
