Hello, I’m a naive younger adult and confirmed my SSN to my “bank” after I found out a purchase was made from Canada. Turns out the ATM I had used earlier stole my money (it was the only transaction I made that day) causing scam #1.
Frustrated by being scammed, I called my bank as soon as I could. I was so frustrated that I quickly confirmed my name, SSN, and bank account. (I actually had a medical emergency today so I’ve been very stressed.) I realized I got scammed again when the “bank” put me on hold and never got back to me. I mistakenly used the number google provided instead of going directly to my bank’s website, which was one digit different. They played the part well.
I have since transferred all my money to my mom’s account and froze all my cards. I’m feeling a bit better in regards to my finances.
However, I have no clue how to address is my SSN. There hasn’t been activity but I fear it could happen at anytime. I finally fixed my credit and wouldn’t want it to be compromised again. What do I do? Do I call the police? Is there a way to get a new number? I’ve tried googling this topic but I’m honestly confused and too emotionally charged to comprehend.
