Okay, I know what everyone is going to say, just leave the company instead of trying to get them to give me a raise, but for multiple reasons, I don't want to do that.
So, I was looking on Glassdoor and found out that instead of being close to average for my position/company/location/experience, I am now in the lowest 25%. I have been feeling this ever since I got a job offer in Oct for 15% more and turned it down because the career development didn't line up with where I wanted to go, but my current company is giving me the opportunities I asked for.
Essentially, I would be 100% happy in my current role if I got a 6-8% raise. I just got a major project to a major milestone so I think this might be a good time to ask. I've also applied to an adjacent position one level up (I'm pretty sure I'd be working on the same projects just under a different manager and with more responsibility, but I'd still be behind the average salary by about 7% so I need to ask regardless)
How do I ask? Do I ask while letting my manager also know I've applied for this other position? I don't want to leave a bitter taste in their mouth, but all of my family mentors worked in 1980-2010 and don't really understand having to ask for a raise to keep up with market price.
Once again, telling me to leave is not helpful for a variety of reasons.
