I know people are going to laugh at me in the comments, but I also know how stupid and naive I am to have fallen for this obvious of a scam. Really need advice on how to fix this.
I have been job hunting since graduating last year and finally a position that I applied to on LinkedIn replied to me. They texted me to do the interview over Telegram messenger (I know). They “hired” me within 24 hours and even sent me an official looking offer letter through a company email domain. They then proceeded to send me a check of $1200 to buy materials (I know!), and Chase seemed to clear it so I sent the money to them by Zelle. They tried to send me more checks to buy materials but Chase caught on and marked them as fraud. Like all scammers, they stopped responding. Thank god, because I really hadn’t caught on even then. I have called Chase to stop the checks and to file a scam complaint. They said not a lot can be done because the money was sent through Zelle. I checked their policies but they don’t seem to have a consumer protection policy, so the chances of me getting the money back is 50/50.
I have filed a report to the FTC, CFPB, and IC3. Not sure if I should file a report to the local police because it was an online job scam. The only information the job scammers have of me is my driver’s license, but since that is mostly public information, I’m not worried about that. I just don’t know if it’s possible to get this money back, but now my account is overdrawn and i’m completely in the negatives. I have no support who can help me with this, so I would love some advice or help on what to do next.
