My husband & I have AOL email accounts. We used the AOL dialup service for about 10 years. When we got cable internet, we kept our AOL emails but switched to AOL's cheaper "bring your own access" plan because it offered online identity theft protection that Comcast didn't. A couple of years ago, I thought we switched to the free email service instead of "upgrading" to AOL Gold. We don't even have AOL installed on our computer anymore.
Coincidentally, about three years ago, my husband's credit card was compromised and he got a new number. Apparently he never switched AOL to the new number and AOL never contacted us about it. He happened to have an issue today and called AOL, and they said he'd need to bring the account current or risk losing our email accounts, contact lists, etc.
What should we do? Is there any way of finding out what plan we're on? When I log into my email, I don't see anything about plans or subscriptions. It's entirely possible that my husband didn't understand something, like maybe he was asking about a service that we don't get on the free plan, but that we aren't in danger of losing everything. But how do I make sure? I don't want to pay $200+ to AOL is I don't absolutely need to! Thanks!
