Have been through a 2 and a half month interview process where I declared salary expectation at initial application. On first interview, they acknowledged I had provided a number and didn’t say anything further.
Referee checks are now complete and they asked again what salary expectations were, so I repeated the original number. Was then told the band is much lower, but that they can go through a lengthy process to try and get closer to what I want. Was told it is unlikely to succeed.
I know I’m the only person interviewed, and that there were two roles available, also that the company needs someone in the role urgently.
Is this normal? Feels frustrating that they went through all of this knowing our expectations of salary were so far apart.
