So My dad (40) just told me and insane story
Back in 2006, my mom and dad wanted to buy Nividia graphics cards. The cards in question where 1100 (USD) dollars. Nividia stock was priced at 13 dollars a share, and my dad believed in Nividia as a good investing opportunity. he bought 200 shares of Nividia. Nividia proceeded to go to 26 dollars a share and he sold. 2300 profit. He then goes to work and brags to his coworkers about how Nividia bought his graphics cards for him. Now, sounds like a good deal right? except for the fact that over 15 years, Nividia stock has split 1 for 2, then 1 for 2 again, then 2 for 3. 200 stock turned into 1200 stock. Also, Nividia stock has rose to 737 dollars a share. 737 X 1200 and you get 884,800 dollars.
Point of the story: It pays to be patient and to buy companies you believe will do well.
