I'm currently in the middle of training and onboarding for a new position that I was offered within the same company, and just this morning got word from HR that the pay I was offered in writing on my signed offer letter was "too high" and "no one gets paid that" and told that I would need to accept what amounts to just about a 20% reduction in pay.

Is this legal? What rights do I have here? HR requested a meeting tomorrow to discuss and I plan on telling them that I'm not sure I would have accepted the position at the pay rate they're proposing, and would like to hear any other alternatives they can think of.

Also, would this count as constructive dismissal? It's a little weird because technically I'd be resigning my old position to start at this one, so what would I even be dismissed from?

Appreciate any advice, the job is great apart from HR and I'm a big fan of my actual boss and team. Just not sure how to navigate this.
