My bf and I are planning on moving in together soon. We'll be renting a place with his parents and this is how we've decided to split finances: he's covering rent (utilities covered) and I'm in charge of saving for our future. We make about the same but he spends more than I do (I was a lot more frugal before we met but since getting together I've started spending more and I'm working on getting that under control). We both have a 5k emergency fund each and I plan on setting aside an equal amount in rent minus groceries. The rest is going towards my retirement and I'm helping him budget for retirement too. This was his idea because he knows if he has money he'd want to spend it. This is our 1st serious relationship where finances are involved so I'm not sure if we're doing this right. What do the rest of you do?
