It started yesterday when I took all three of my animals in for a routine vet check up. One dog did develop Aural Hematoma this past week so I expected bigger vet bill. It turns out that all of my animals have an issue right now that requires attention or additional tests. The dog aural hematoma is 10 and our cat is 11 so that doesn't surprise me. Between the initial visit, surgery, and follow on tests we are looking at $4200. I then got a notice today that I was overpaid $600 from a government agency and I owe that back.
I made a $5k transfer from the emergency fund. It hurts but it doesn't effect our summer vacation plans.
Edit: I typed this out from my phone. The point I was trying to articulate how the emergency fund did as needed and the only thing I have to do is divert some cash I had planned to save for fun things and put it back into the emergency fund. No bills will be missed and I don't have to cancel the two trips I had planned this summer.
