I graduated from school 4 years ago this fall. edit: spring not fall. At graduation we did an exit loan counseling thing. I knew I'd have to start making payments in 6 months. Well I didnt find employment by 6 months, but nothing ever happened. Never received any correspondence from my loan servicer. At that point I knew something was wrong but since I couldnt pay it yet, I didnt worry about it. At about 9 months I got a job in my field and starting making enough to make my payments. I still hadnt received any sort of correspondence though so I got to wondering what was going on.
I did the irresponsible thing. I didnt worry about it. Figured when they called or wrote or emailed I'd pick up the payments. In the meantime I saved the money for when it came due.
We are going on 4 years now and I have never heard a word from them. I have the same phone number, address, and email from when I applied for the loans. It is not a matter of them not being able to find me.
I have received my tax returns and stimulus checks, which from my understanding I wouldnt get if I was in default. (At least the tax return, not sure about the stimulus)
Is it really possible that i just somehow got lucky? Or is the hammer going to drop?
Edit to add: nothing on my credit report about the loans. I didnt really pay that close to my credit during college so I cant say with 100% certainty, but to the best of my knowledge they have never been on there. I can say for 100% sure they havent been since I graduated.
