I (24F) am a medical student and I am on rotations, meaning I work in a hospital learning from doctors every day. One of my classmates (39 F) is assigned to do a rotation at a hospital near me (instead of her usually hospital) and she needs a place to stay so she doesn’t have to commute 3 hours per day.
I live with my boyfriend (27 M) and we are about 15 minutes from the hospital she is assigned to for this rotation. We live in a trailer and pay 500 in rent, about 50 for water, about 150 for electric, and 44 for internet. If you total this up, it is 744. 1/3 of that is $248.
I am thinking of asking my classmate to pay $250 for rent for the month she will be staying with us. I think this is significantly cheaper than anything else she would be able to find (air bnb, hotel, etc) for the month she needs to be in our city.
She will also have her own bedroom, with a bed/mini fridge/TV provided, along with towels/sheets/toilet paper/etc. And her own bathroom and will be welcome to use anything we have (washer/dryer, paper towels, laundry detergent/dish soap) while she is here.
My question is, do you think $250 for this for a month is unreasonable? It’s not about the money really, we are happy to help her out. But the electric and water bill will likely increase with an extra person, and having to live with someone else isn’t the most convenient thing in the world. She asked me what we wanted her to pay to stay for the month, so is $250 okay? Thoughts?
