I found this great used car online on TrueCar for $13k with low mileage and good condition. We went to the dealership listed and suddenly they throw 18k as the price tag after the dealer fees and other fees they just listed off. There was no way to negotiate that down to 13k. We left.
I have never used something like TrueCar before, and I was surprised. The total initial listed price was great (it was even estimated as a great price by truecar). Then hit with 18k with fees not even mentioned on TrueCar or the dealer's website?? That's almost 40% higher! Is that normal behavior by dealers listed on websites like say TrueCar? Feels dealership just wants to get me in the door with TrueCar's very reasonable pricing then throw a price tag much higher as the real price. It's pretty much a bait-and-switch.. I don't even know the point of using such a car buying service.
