I’ve been on about 5 dates with someone. I’m beginning to get bogged down by his level of frugality.
- first date is out somewhere: we split the bill 50/50. All good with me - i am usually a splitter unless the guy insists
- Other “dates” are all at-home dates. I like home cooking dates, but we had some of his leftovers a couple instances which isn’t the same vibe as “home dinner dates”.
- His fridge items/produce are quite a ways past their expiration dates (btw I have bin dived for restaurant waste before so I don’t think I’m being precious) - I offered to buy groceries one time to make dinner to which he just wanted leftovers instead or suggested ordering in (confusing!)
- Twice we ordered food from places he knew so I let him just pick from the menu for us. Both times he only ordered one portion/dish that we would share. The portions were not large enough for two, so I ate less in order for him to have enough.
I am most shocked by #4. Ordering one thing for the both of us seemed excessive and I was so hungry and tried my best to remain calm until I got home and ravaged my own fridge.
What are your thoughts? I posted here because I like to think I’m mostly frugal. With dates I allow myself to be somewhat generous. I’m not asking for cocktail bar dates, but I would like to at least eat proper meals together. We are in the early stages of dating, and I am thinking about potentially pursuing him, but this one thing is bugging me. Am I over thinking his frugality?
