So I decided to try a "no buy month", starting today. First I stocked up on a few essentials: compost for my indoor gardening projects, soap and toothpaste, laundry powder and a new toilet seat (something I've needed for a while, so thought I'd get it so that it's not on my mind).
Next week I've decided I'm going to invest in an annual bus pass, which will take care of all my travel expenses and save me a lot over the course of the year, but apart from this, from today, I'm not spending any money at all unless it's absolutely essential. That means food and any bills that come through this month, nothing else.
I've a 25kg bag of porridge oats and a 25kg bag of red lentils that I use as my staples most days, meaning all I need is to buy cheap veg and bread when I see it to make sure I'm getting enough nutrients and I'm not constantly hungry.
I also topped up my electricity meter (I have a pre-payment system) with £40, which I'll set as my 'allowance' for the month.
Anyone else following a similar challenge this month? Please share your ideas and plans!
