I'm 20, university student (Junior, 3y to go) with zero debts, and I am employed year round.

When I was in highschool, I took an accounting basics class for fun that talked about stuff like managing a chart of accounts, filling in a ledger, et cetera.

For about a year during my first year of college, I budgeted my spending using an excel spreadsheet, but only because I was living off my savings. Now I have an engineering job and I don't really need to worry about money as much, so I stopped budgeting, but I am noticing lifestyle creep. I need to chill on spending money on things I don't need, or it feels that way at least.

Right now I don't even bother looking at my bank account because I have notifications for every transaction involving my money. I want to be more organized, but I also run a small IT business on the side, and would feel more comfortable having accounts receivable from my clients whom I build computers for instead of just looking back via amazon and telling them how much to write me a check for.

So I want to get back into managing my finances, but I want to be detailed with it.

Is this crazy? I know normal people probably wouldn't start a ledger for their personal life, but I feel like it would be a good habit to make, especially with investments, etc. in the long run.
