I am a 20 year female sophomore from Louisiana in college and on track to graduate as a nurse by 2023. By next August I will have around 45/50k saved up after taxes and years of working as a babysitter/nanny. I have around 15k invested in various stocks through my Fidelity account, but don’t plan on selling anytime soon. I plan on investing more of it probably. My scholarship covers my tuition and housing plus I work full time while going to school full time at the moment.

I am one of six kids, grew up dirt poor, and homeless on and off... So spending money literally scares me to my core.

I drive a 2006 Nissan Sentra that is in excellent condition. The previous owner and I have never had a problem with it. Still runs and works perfectly. I’m considering getting a new car next August when I go to Nursing school which is an hour and a half away from home. I would be getting an apartment and would drive like 4 hours total a week or less to visit my boyfriend.

I am saving up for (hopefully) graduate school and just life in general. I am not worried about graduate school because when I get a job as a nurse I will be saving aggressively like I always tend to do.

All in all, should I wait until I graduate from college and start my first job as a nurse or should I just go ahead and buy a used car for under 15k ( don’t feel comfortable spending any more than that)?

Any tips on what I should do with my money is welcomed!

Thank you!
