Trying to mount my monitors, don't know that much about DIY.I used a stud finder, and as far as I can tell my 24" apart and 2.5" wide, I've tested this in several locations.I drilled a pilot hole with a 3/16" carbide-tipped drill bit and I can get through the drywall fine, but cannot get through what's beyond at all. I shined a flashlight through and it looks shiny/metallic to me. However, from my readings, metal studs are 1 5/8", not 2.5". Further, most articles say the metal is sheet metal so I should be able to drill into it with a regular drill bit. I read that this might be because I'm hitting a pipe or a wire protecting plate, but the same behavior occurs both a foot above my target location as well as on a different stud entirely (yes, my wall is full of holes now). These facts are making me think my studs are not normal steel studs? Do I need a special type of drill bit/screw for these? via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2Stt2da
