I recently installed an articulating TV mount with a 60” tv weighing about 50 lbs (19kg). The studs are 24” apart and the mount wasn’t large enough to reach both. I recently learned about installing pieces of 2x4 or plywood into studs if the mount doesn’t reach, and then mounting the TV bracket to that. Unfortunately, I didn’t do that. I found a stud and fastened one side with 2 lag bolts and washers. On the other side I installed 4 toggle bolts about 4 inches apart. I’ve read about drywall deteriorating over time, especially with an articulating mount which can lead to catastrophic failure. The TV will only be mounted for about a year, but I’m a little concerned about the toggle bolts. Is it relatively low risk to stick with 1 stud and 4 toggle bolts? I really don’t want to pull the mount off and place support behind it, but I will if the risk is too high. Thoughts from everyone here? via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/356d6mU
