I just wanted to share this because I was shocked how easy this was and how long I had fretted over this black mark on my credit report.

Back in 2018, I let a disputed student loan debt go into collections and did the only thing I knew how at the time and ignored the problem and phone calls. I finally paid the debt in 2019, but the pesky closed collections account remained on my record. I figured I was going to have to wait it out for several years.

On a whim the other day (reading some persistent Redditors and how they tracked down executive email addresses and sent requests for goodwill deletions), I thought what the hell - what could it hurt? So I crafted a sincere and self-deprecating emailasking for a goodwill deletion - and let it fly to a generic customer support email address at the collections company.

To my great surprise, not long after this.. CreditKarma reported that a collections account had been cleared from my record. I thought there was no way it could have worked. But after checking, it was indeed the company I emailed. Im sure this is the exception to the rule, but I cant believe it worked, if thats what triggered it!
