I've worked in caring and social service jobs in Toronto, Canada for many years. The rent is unreal, the cost of food is an issue, I either have to put money into massive rents or commuting 4 hours a day (and still having a large rent cheque) . The liability of my work is also an issue. I have a complex learning disability and the specialist type of work I do has become extremely complicated over the years. Yet the wage has not increased in over 20 years. I wish I could say the same for gas.

I'm both among the best and the worst at my job depending on the part people focus on which makes it very stressful. I'm really struggling for over 25 years and want out, but after two and a half decades of considering a move, I haven't identified a living wages job I can do (or any job except stocking groceries or working in heavy unskilled labour.)

The problem is with a complex learning disability it feels like there is literally no other line of work I can do. I can't do any kind of calculation or measurement at all, I'm scattered, have poor judgement and can't keep my behaviour organized.

THE QUESTION: since I can't calculate or conduct an organised search well. I'm asking. Is it likely that if I move to a rural area (maybe 20 min outside of Barrie ON in the country) that I could afford an apartment on a grunt job like working for a moving company or something else unskilled? Is that level of wage for a 40-60 hour work week enough to live modestly on as a single person living maybe 20 min from your workplace?

Please don't waste my time by suggesting I stay with my current job. If coping skills didn't help over 25 years they won't now.
