Hi all,

I'm a young, recent college graduate and was having a discussion recently with two friends of mine (both in their mid-40s) about personal finance and the topic of income transparency came up. From my perspective, my close friends (all in their low 20s) and I quite frequently talk about our income openly. This includes both friends I grew up with, friends from college, and even a few at work. Basically, we know how much each other makes. When I had mentioned this to my older friends, they were both shocked to hear this. They said that they don't even share this with their closest friends. Never have and never will.

I'm not quite sure why my friend group does this, but we see no harm sharing this we those we trust. It seems that maybe older people trust no one but themselves when it comes to their income.

Which really got me thinking... Is this something that you have noticed across younger generations as compared to older ones? Are we becoming more transparent with our personal finances? Are we dropping the stigma often associated with knowledge of someone else's income?

Thoughts?
