Image of demoContext: this is a house that was built in the 1890's in San Francisco. Doing demo on the ground floor today and encountered this cement inside the wall.  My guess is there was rot at some point, and someone cut out the rot and instead of replacing the framing, poured cement into the wall. Seems really weird.  My plan is to remove the cement and replace the framing. But before I do, any help on why this might have been done would be appreciated.   Additional context: the original foundation is brick and has been exposed to water damage in other areas. I don't think this is related. I'm engaging a structural engineer for that issue, but would still appreciate help with what I uncovered today.  via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2MwGN9f
