I just recently purchased a townhome in FL and it's a nice end unit. The unit it self was actually in pretty good shape considering it had renters for about 10 years. They weren't clean people but all the floors are in good shape, carpet, no major holes in the wall. I'm in my 30's and this is my first home. I immediately decided that the popcorn removal was going to be my first project and boy did I pick a big one. I'm actually in a really good spot, as I've been living with my parents so there is no furniture in the house and I have about 2 weeks before I need to move out of my storage unit. Also for anyone reading YES I tested for asbestos even though the unit was built in the mid 80's. Came back negative so I tackled this as a DIYSo back to the ceilings. I was lucky enough that these had never been painted so the removal has been not terrible. I did hand scrap the first day the old fashion way. Spray, wait and scrap. I bought one of those pole scrapers from Lowe's and it's worthless. It was honestly faster to use the 6" putty knife. Took about 4 hours to do the bathroom and the bedroom (includes sanding the entire seiling and also spackling)After that I ended up renting a drywall sander from home depot and that thing is AMAZING. Did the guest and two other bathrooms in half the time and even though it's a heavier item I think it actually does a better job than hand scraping. It's certainly a dustier process butBelow are before middle and after pictures. I've managed to paint one room and the guest I've prepped for painting and hope to get that done this weekend. Overall a lot of work but I'm pretty proud of the resulthttps://imgur.com/a/bRlwfVf via /r/DIY http://bit.ly/2JCmI0e
