Before I begin, yes I know I should probably call a repair man, but I have an annoying habit of trying to figure things out and fix them myself. This is a bit long, TL;DR at endMy garage door seems to only want to close sometimes, after extensive googling, I thought it might be a sun glare on the sensors problem. And for the most part, yes it’s obvious that if there’s even a little bit of sun, the problem happens. But, now it seems to be happening regardless. Not every time though. Either by the button in the garage or a remote, when it does happen, it’ll go down a few inches and reverse back up. Sometimes it gets a bit further down before it pops back up, sometimes it barely goes down half an inch before reversing. The only way to get it to go down completely is to hold the button down in the garage.I’ve tried to notice a pattern in when it decides to play nice and when it’s being stubborn. At first, yes it seems like a sun problem, but the lights on the sensors don’t change color as if they’re blocked, they stay the same green and amber. I’ve cleaned the sensors, tighten the screws, just in case they were wiggling, tried DIY sun shades, and SOMETIMES It works! But then it doesn’t, so now nothing makes sense. It seems to work perfectly early in the morning, and that’s about it. I can’t remember if I’ve had this problem during the night, but I don’t think I have, thus why I believed it was a sun issue. But it’s now happening on cloudy days. I live in Central Valley CA, where cloudy days are rare, but we’ve had a few weeks now of some much needed rain, but starting to realize this couldn’t possibly be just a sun glare issue. The sensors wires were drywalled over.., so I can’t just go buy new ones unless I’m mistaken on how I can replace them, and don’t have to actually rip it out of the wall. I’m not at home at the moment so if I’m not making any sense, I’ll try and get photos posted. So, my only other thoughts are, based on my limited understand of garage doors and a quick look over of the whole thing, i noticed the weather stripping on the bottom is hanging off and a bit torn up in places, could it possibly be that? I also noticed that it shakes more than maybe it should when it reverse back up. Nothing looks damaged, rails look fine. It seems like, (again, very limited understanding) the door feels like it’s hitting something and freaking out.TL;DR If not a sun glare sensor problem on moody garage door that only wants to work early in the morning, and at no other time during the day, what other areas should I be looking at as a culprit for why it will sometimes close a few inches and reverse as if It’s possessed.Thank you SO MUCH for any help. via /r/DIY http://bit.ly/2Ew3aXw
