Hello, I am new to the group with the goal of figuring out the most efficient way to "fix" about 6 door strike plates. I bought a 1920's house, all the wood in the house is spectacular, but almost every door (closet, bedrooms, bathroom) has an issue. Whether it be the house is settling or poor original placement - I've got to get these fixed. So if I need to move a strike plate over, whether up down, left or right, I will need to chisel out a new groove for my new location. Which, will expose the previous chiseled area. Furthermore, my screws holes will be extremely close, for the strike plates that need miniscule fixes.Would I be better off "starting from scratch" and filling in the existing location, sand it, find perfect location, chisel out new hole, and afix strike plate? OR Make the minor adjustment, fill in previous marks?Mind you, this is an old house and appears that someone else tried making adjustments and on one plate, painted over the gold (it would look better with a bigger clean plate). So the strike plate holes look awful - I am leaning towards filling them in and starting from scratch, as it would feel like there should be no can of worms issues via /r/DIY http://bit.ly/2HKppLo
