Hello,
I hope this is the right subreddit, if not, please redirect. I will be resigning from my job soon, but I’d like some input regarding sign on bonus before I speak with HR.
My offer letter states that the “bonus will be paid in 4 quarterly installments” as long as I’d work for them for 1 year. It then states that I don’t get the bonus if I were to resign before the 1 year mark.
I’m at 9 months now, and I have received the first and second of four payments so far.
If I resign within the next few weeks, is it possible that they could halt the third and fourth payments per my request if I give a resignation date? My bonus is $4000, but my quarterly payments are $553 after taxes. So I am wondering if they stopped the third and fourth payments due to my resignation, then I’d only have to pay back half ($2000) of the bonus rather than $4000? Or would I still have to pay 4000 even if I didn’t actually get paid the last two installments?
Lastly, can this bonus be applied to filing taxes next year to get anything back?
Thanks!
