In 2018 I made less than 10,000. My mother is trying to convince me that she should claim me as a dependent on her taxes. Telling me that I'll still receive my full refund if I don't claim myself, but by allowing her to claim me she'll receive a greater return. She says that if i did claim myself I wouldn't receive any extra benefit as I made under the 10,000 dollar threshold.
Another facet is that I'm an adult and we dont share the same residence. And she has intentionally misled me in the past saying she would give me part of her return for allowing her to claim me.
If she claims me, will it prevent me from filing my own return? And if so, how could I dispute her claim?
