Update: I attempted to leverage the offer at my current job and it failed. I figured if they could give something I would stay. The federal red tape for things like this is daunting. Meanwhile the company could sense hesitation and threw in a $20k signing bonus.
I know it seems like the obvious answer is to leave but I am a top performer at my job and have a clear cut career path up the chain. My current management gives me nothing but praise and verbal promises.
On the other side of the fence is uncertainty. This company lays off at the loss of a contract and I can’t move since my wife is unwilling to and makes as much as me. There is little industry where we live so being laid off could mean a year or so out of work.
