I think I have Stockholm Syndrome for the bus system in my city. I live in one of the largest cities in the US and at first I felt bad for the people who rode the bus (in the US, there is a stigma about it, not like Europe or Asian countries where everyone takes public transit), but when I had to take my car to the shop and ride the bus to school one day I realized that I was saving a ton of money by riding the bus.

Not many people do this, but for most universities, riding the bus is free through Ride Metro's program. My used Honda Accord 2002 was using 18 mpg roughly (190,000 miles, its old) and was absolutely eating up gas. My university is also a 30 minute drive away. By taking the bus, I was being transported to the school for free and did not have to fill my car up. Also, parking at my school is so horrible, people really struggle to find parking.

Cons:

The bus ride to school is about an hour, same time coming back

The bus does ride through a ghetto neighborhood. There are some really shady ass people and most people on the bus are really poor, but I see a lot of students on the bus.

Anyway, I was wondering if people started to take the bus to work or school to save money and was it worth it ? You're obviously giving up convenience and time by doing so, but you're saving money....
