This is one of those sagas that feels like it never happens "in real life". British Airways leaked my details in the September 2018 data breach, offered me a subscription to an identity monitoring service that doesn't work and 2 months later (dreadful month November of 2018) I got a phone call from what seemed to be Metro Bank (they cloned their number, so my phone was showing Metro's number - even more, it was the division of metro that would handle my account type) with regards to a suspicious "bogus" card transaction.
Long story short, they managed to change my internet banking credentials and empty the account. This raised 0 flags in the Metro Bank's systems (based on the response I got from them when asked what checks did they perform to make sure the transactions were legit, it's fairly obvious there are no systems in place)
Exactly 2 months after the incident was reported I haven't heard anything with regards to how much money were they able to recover. But 24 hours after I made it public on social media I got an answer (which sort of points to a sick behaviour really, where if you don't damage their image they really don't do ... their job) as Barclays (the fraudster's beneficiar bank) managed to recover the daunting sum of £7.78
Stay safe and use institutions with proper security measures in place (token generators, voice/face auth etc)
