I am in Tech. my first job was Desktop Support at 25$/hour. Second job was IT solutions for 30$/hour.

Covid hit, got laid off, and a company was offering very low wages... probably to take advantage of people who got laid off... that's not 100% fact so Idk. Anyways I got hired as a Network and Cloud Operations Tech at 16$/hour... I took it because I didn't want to get CERB/COVID hand-outs. That ain't me. I work with a lot more complex and advanced technologies, I've become CCNA, Azure and VMware certified, and you know... I've been here for 10 months because I can't seem to land another job.

Conclusion, every day I get to work, and instead of doing my job, all I do all day is practice my coding skills, study for the next cert, and apply for jobs. I half-ass job every ticket I do, and I know very well that I am half-assing it, and I really feel bad about it, but at the same time I just don't care.16$/hour would be okay in a better part of Canada too, however, I live in British Columbia, and if anyone knows anything about that Province... 16$/hour is hardly enough to pay for my cost of living. I have about 400$/month left over after expenses, and I spend all of it on study material, coaching programs and booking my exams.

Every time I fail an exam, I know I have to wait another 2 months to save up just to try it again... it sucks more than failing.

I'm not really looking for advice, just wanted to vent. If anyone else is in the same boat as me, just know you are not alone.

I've had 15 interviews in the last 2 months, so a change is coming soon... but in the meantime I just feel weird, because in my past roles I always gave it 100% effort, here I give 20%.
