My wife has decided, fairly abruptly, that she can't deal with her current working conditions and has found work at a different day care. Is it the best career move? Probably not, but she wasn't happy where she was and the pay cut isn't too egregious. She currently has a 401k that she has contributed about $1200 to over the course of the last few months. The new job doesn't offer anything at all. I guess my question is, is it worth moving those funds to an IRA? It isn't much money and until she is more settled in a job, we don't plan to contribute further to it. If anything we would do a Roth for her when that time comes. Should we just take the money and pay the penalty?

Edit: Never mind, the decision was made for me. They charge $50 to take the funds out no matter what. Just going to leave it where it is until they make us move it or until she works somewhere with a new plan.
