Quick Background: My father passed away in 2016 when I was still in High School. In total I inherited toughly 140k in two major payments. The first payment was around 70k when I first entered College and with a combination of being a complete idiot and deciding to live at a dorm all of that first batch is gone.
Current Situation: The second batch was around 80K and is the last of all the money my father worked hard to set aside for me. I got this batch in early August and at the time I was in a frantic search for an apartment because living home was not an option. Well, as expected, having no history and being a jobless student my options were limited but I did manage to find an apartment for around $2150 a month (way over what I was originally aiming for in NYC) and having to pay for the entire lease in advance. After the cost of moving and buying everything I needed to be on my own and 1 month of spending habits that were still literal garbage. I have finally reached the point where I am sick and tired of being sick and tired and I am ready to do something to get me bye till I start working and set myself up for the future.
Current Situation: - Around $60K left - 1 - 1.5 years left in school (CS degree) - Cannot move back home so I still need to pay for an apartment for the next year - Jobless
Important Monthly Expenses: - Electric - Gas - Food - Phone - Transportation to school
Expenses I am probably going to cut: - Subscription to online TV (Vue) - Video Games - Random expenses like spotify
In reality, I can probably cut down my mandatory expenses to around $500 but even now I have non idea if that is a good target. Beside that I am lost at what I can do with the money I have so that is why I came here. Thanks for reading.
