So I am currently working at an animal shelter and getting paid per diem to come in for a couple hours a few days a week to medicate animals. The place I work for is a second smaller location to a more established one downstate and I receive my checks in the mail from that location. Each week I submit a timesheet which is just an excel document that calculates exactly how much I earned per hour worked and soon thereafter I receive a check in the mail with that exact amount, which tells me that this income is not being taxed. I am under the impression that it very well should be and I was curious as to if I had to somehow pay taxes manually on this income so I don't owe a whole load of money once tax season rolls around. Any advice??
