I recently took my car to the shop because my transmission was slipping once it reached second gear. The auto shop is sure that the car needs a new transmission, but I will get a second opinion on it soon.
The car is a 2009 Chevy Malibu with 82,000 miles on it. I bought it in 2013 for $16,000 and it is paid off. This is the first major issue Ive had with the car other than regular maintenance (tire, oil change, brakes, transmission fluid).
If the car does need a new transmission, which is quoted to be $4500-$5000, what should I do? Replace it or lease a new car? I am weighing my options on what to do for my next step. I am currently a student in university with one more semester left and doing a internship as well.
I just want to thank everyone for their kind responses and advices. They’ve been extremely helpful. The first opinion I got on the car issue was a from a local mom-pop auto shop. My next opinion is awaiting tomorrow from a well received auto shop in my local area (MI). But, I will also call the dealership about the manufacture warranty. My Malibu is a 3.6L V6 (6 speed) for those who were curious. Every maintenance intervals that is required has been followed up yearly.
