Hi all, first time poster with some DIY expertise; however, never tackled a fire place!I have ripped our old fire surround off: https://ift.tt/2S4UlZW house had an electric fire in place with a 'new' (it's been in a fair few years by now) fire surround and accompanying electric fire.We are wanting to open this up to house a slightly larger cast iron fire (the fireback as seen front and centre is too small to house it).I believe, but I'm not 100% sure, that the current fire back has been added and packed out with the newer looking bricks and mortar. My guess is that if we removed these bricks, the opening would run to the back of the chimney breast allowing for an open fire.Any ideas? via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2Ake5lm
