Reporting after 2 weeks without sugar after whole life with soda/candies... Few weeks back I watched some documents on YT about sugar and addiction... I decided that I should try to be sugarfree for 1 month. My goal was to reduce consupmption of everything that has too much added sugar or food, which contains high amout of sugar, just for the lulz and to be more healthy. Only exception is fruit. Basically now I check everything if it contains sugar and how much. On every processed food you can find nutrient label of how much sugar it contains. I had a rule that if it contains more than 2% (2g/100g) of sugar (i am not counting sacharids), i will not buy it or eat it. First days were fine, but the 3rd, 4th a 5th were with horrible headache. Like 10x hangover. The temptation was so strong, same as if you ever really tried to stop smoking. This is much worse, because you eat sugar for your whole life. Its very hard to find something in supermarket to eat, mostly basic ingredients like potatoes, rice, fruit, vegetables... Just plain food, WHICH IS CHEAPER THAN ANYTHING ELSE on the shelf. This will rule out all sauces, dips/ ketchup, diary products, even milk..., After first week you discover that your taste is much much better (same difference as if you quit smoking) and everything without sugar is in reality very sweet. Potatoes are sweet, carrot, i swear even meat taste like cube of sugar. You eat smaller portions and you feel constantly full even with 2 meals a day and you enjoy your food much more. There is no craving for another meal during the day. Try drink only water/tea/coffee without sugar and cream. Sure its hard. I have constant temptation like a heroine addict. I still have Pepsi, lots of chocolate, even icecream ... in my house and hypnotize it all the time, but I dont touch it the same way that no-smoker dont touch cigarettes and dont even think about smoking them. This is just not for me at this time. Social pressure is very strong. if anyone wants to try it, just tell others what are you trying to accomplish. They will be making fun of you, they will eat cake in front of you... Just resist. Its worth it. You can always give up. Try it, you will save like 1/3 of the budget on food. You will eat less and less expensive food. Breakfast is apple/banana, lunch at work/school and dinner you cook for yourself. No fastfood.
