So I make monthly payments to the IRS for my 2017 1040. I had set up autopay a couple months ago and it was supposed to begin last month. When I went to check my account the day of last month, no payment had been drafted so I made a payment online and decided to deal with the issue later.

My payment was due today and I checked my bank account and saw I didn't have quite enough to cover it as I don't get paid until Friday. I decided to put it on a credit card and pay that off later this week. Made the payment online at pay1040.com and looked back at my bank account and being the dunce I am, saw that the IRS did indeed draft the monthly amount today! I guess it decided this month it would work correctly.

In the FAQs at Pay 1040, it says they can't cancel a payment. I called Discover and they said since it's still only pending, they can't do anything either.

My question is obviously, can I cancel one of these payments? I don't really have the financial means to pay twice this month. If I can't cancel it, will they at least allow me to not pay next month? What, if any, are my options here? It's too late to call the IRS so I will try that tomorrow but I wanted to see if anyone had some input.

Thanks in advance.
