I read online that a 30 year old should have at least 1 year’s salary in their 401k. And enough in their savings to survive three months with no income.

I was very irresponsible with money until recently. Now I’m on a very strict budget. I have 10k in one account - this is the account I use to pay all my bills. I keep enough in my checking account for spending money (groceries, gas, dinners, etc) and I spend $150/week. I have 11k in a savings account with 1.90% APY. And 12k in my 401k.

According to the article I read I should have 69k in my 401k. Obviously I’m a little short!!

Will I ever catch up? And does this mean I’m in really bad shape?
