I recently tossed another batch of tattered ankle socks. In my research for the best socks to buy for life I've concluded that merino wool socks are the best by a long shot. However they are extremely expensive, running $10-$20 for each pair. This is insane when I'm looking to buy ~20 pairs of socks to cover winter/summer and exercise.
So I really want to invest in wool for all my socks but I'm not sure how thinner wool socks hold up compared to classic wool hiking socks. Also of course I'm hesitant to spend hundreds of dollars on just socks. Are there ever significant sales on wool socks like these? Outlet stores that sell them cheaply? I'm in NYC if anyone knows of a relevant IRL store.
