I removed the window casings last night with the intention of re-casing it after work today, however as I got past the 1 bys and the trim pieces, I noticed the plywood "floor", which is 1 1/4" plywood with a veneer (maybe a piece of countertop?), that makes up the base of the bay appears to run all the way underneath the windows. The problem is this plywood is rotten enough that I was able to push my fingers right through the section that butts up against the windows. I would like to remove the rotten slab and replace it, but I'm worried that the windows themselves aren't actually attached to the frame of the house, but instead are sitting directly on this rotten plywood. Has anyone every encountered a situation like this and what would you do? I suppose I can afford to replace the whole setup but it would be a pretty big burden right now, and I really don't want to get into a multi-thousand dollar project when all I intended was to spend $50 on lumber and trim at Lowe's.
