As the title says, Wells Fargo has stolen my money, and is currently refusing to give it back. In mid-July, I deposited $1,900 cash into an ATM. In hindsight, I probably should have walked this amount in, but I was trying to handle it on a weekend, when I don't have to work. Regardless, as I was depositing the funds, the ATM started spitting bills back out to me, $800 to be exact. When the ATM asked if I wanted to deposit anything else, I said yes, and proceeded to re-deposit the $800. At this point, the machine became very screwy and told me it was unable to determine how much I had deposited. The machine instructed me to type the amount I had deposited onto the keypad, and they would work it out in the branch. I had already seen that the ATM registered the first batch of $1,100. With this in mind, I was under the assumption I was only being asked about the second batch. As such, I only typed $800. After submitting this, the ATM generated a receipt for the entire deposit of ONLY $800.

I immediately called customer service to report the error and explain the situation. They told me they can and will investigate the matter. They provided me assurances that the branch will work through the error when they reconcile the deposits. Additionally, they issued me a temporary credit for the amount in the mean time. Now, here we are, six weeks and three dead-end 'status request' phone calls later, and they are telling me that they have determined the original $800 to be correct, which is complete and utter bullshit. I will be calling them first thing tomorrow to escalate the matter in any way I can.

Does anyone here have thoughts about the sort of actions I should take or thing I should say on the call? Being cash, is it really my word against theirs at this point? Will it help to file a complaint with the CFPB? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. I would really prefer to not lose $1,100 to these scumbags.
