Disclaimer: I’m new here & have no idea what to do anymore so I just need some help!! Long Story: I am 22, almost 23 years old and I’ve been living on my own since I was 21. I am in school to eventually become a Physician’s Assistant. I pay all of my own bills and have since I was 20, including: rent, electric, cable, car payment, car insurance, credit cards, medical bills, etc. Everything that I own is 100% in my name, so I have no ties to my parents anymore. I recently applied & got approved for my own health insurance which is through the state and I also changed my legal address after my parents decided to claim me on their taxes. I do not live with them and have not for almost 2 years now. They do not give me any money or help with any of my bills and never have. Since my parents claimed me on their taxes even though I don’t live with them, my school has denied me for financial aid because I’m still under my parents income and they make too much. I got no money back from my tax return because I was claimed on theirs. I owe money for unpaid medical bills and maxed credit cards from struggling to pay for school and everything all by myself. I work as a waitress and don’t make amazing money, but I do kind of alright for myself. I had to take off from going to school this year because they won’t give me the financial aid I need and I owe the school money now that I can’t pay. IM STUCK help me! What should I do? I don’t want to get my parents in trouble for claiming me on their taxes when I don’t live with them... but I work very hard and I want to be able to finish school.
