Called an AC company to assess and give a quote on a repair for my outdoor unit. Without prompting for authorization, they did a repair on the unit. My next interaction with them was a bill in the mail. I called to ask why and they said "because it was less than $300, they perform work without authorization". This policy was never discussed on the phone when setting up the schedule for the technician to come out.
I felt that I was left out of the entire process because from my perspective: what I wanted was a quote, and what I got was a bill.
Half-hour on the phone with them and they agreed to settle with me for just the service call price of $99. Saved me ~$200!
