So far I've looked at RAV4s and Subaru Foresters on recommendations from family and friends, both from around 2012-2015, but I'm interested to hear some other input as well, also willing to go older but no older than 2006. I do a lot of driving for work, both on highways and little dirt roads way up in the mountains, and I will occasionally need to sleep or camp out in the vehicle, and I need to be able to carry a decent amount of cargo (kayaks, fishing gear, camping equipment, small appliances, but not all at once). Those are really my only qualifications.
Was considering a truck for a while but mpg is ridiculous. Totally open to the RAV4s and Foresters I've checked out too, they seem decent enough for what I'm doing, just wondering if anyone has any other ideas on this.
