I've built myself a mezzanine (loft) in a room. It spans the full width of the room (3m/10'), and is 2.4m (8') high. But it needs a railing across the front. Here's the sketchup. As you can see, there are five posts holding up a handrail. The two end posts will be bolted directly to the walls so I'm not worried about their rigidity, but I'm not sure what to do about the middle posts and then how to mount the handrails to them. The original plan was to use dowels at every joint, but because the railing is sandwiched between two walls, I can't work out how to slot the final handrail in (because there's no free space to move the posts laterally). Dowels also don't seem to offer enough of a cantilever effect on the central posts to stop them tilting outwards if someone leans on the railing.I also looked at double ended wood screws to mount the posts into the joists, but that involves twisting the posts down onto the floor. I can't then tilt/lean the posts to fit a doweled handrail between any two posts. This final piece of the puzzle has really got me scratching my head. Can anyone point me towards a guide/youtube video/product? via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2vg3ogF
