Some background info. I went to the ER earlier this month because I thought I was having a heart attack (tight feeling in my chest, lots of pain, difficulty breathing, left arm was numb). The Tuesday before I went I found out I had lost my health insurance because my dad had been laid off from his job, but it couldn’t be helped because I genuinely thought I was having a heart attack. I spend 5 hours in the ER, by the 3rd hour the pain is completely gone and I’m just waiting to go home. It was actually just a really bad panic attack, which I have never experienced one in the past. I just got the bill and looked at it to see it’s $1,180 with the due date saying “due upon receipt”.
There is absolutely no way I can pay all of this off at once, not with the job I have and I can’t really get a better paying job without potentially dropping out of school (can’t do that because then student loans will kick in).
Is there a way for me to make smaller payments on this? Also, any tips on saving up to pay this off quicker? I still live with my mother so I don’t have to worry about rent, but I do pay for my phone, car insurance, a credit card bill that’s almost paid off, and the wifi.
Edit: a period and learned that my dad was laid off July 30th, but didn’t tell anyone until August 6th. The ER visit was August 8th.
Edit 2: coverage officially ended July 31st.
